Though beauty is often based on the degree of facial symmetry, photos and artwork should rarely be centered. Many have heard this basic concept, but it's amazing how many people don't put it into practice.
Whether framing, printing or designing, photos, artwork and even a bookshelf look better when they are asymmetrical. It's not always possible to properly frame a shot when making a film, especially when working with animals, but filmmakers should also consider breaking symmetry.
Whether looking through a camera's eyepiece, or moving around a frame, let's look at breaking symmetry.
A nice reasonably symmetrical photo of Ebbey the canine actor,
who plays a search dog in our upcoming film Search Dog's Raven.
Divide the photo into four equal parts, to find the center.
Breaking symmetry means the center of your subject should not be
in the center of your frame like this photo.
Though limited by this photo's symmetry, we can still improve it through enlarging and breaking the symmetry.
In Conclusion:
1. Our original photo
2. Always frame asymmetrically, and also
3. Consider trying new angles to improve your photos
